Moran Engineering, Inc. has been located in Berkeley since the early 1970’s and has provided professional land surveying services to corporate, educational, civic and private clients throughout the Bay Area.
Everett Moran founded Moran Engineering, Inc. fifty years ago and was at the helm until 2020. As a civil engineer licensed in 1969, he oversaw both civil design work and land surveying operations, as well as business operations for most of those years. With his wealth of wisdom and experience he remains an ongoing consultant and mentor to our company.

Jim Moran, Licensed Land Surveyor – No. 7881: Jim currently oversees the land surveying and business operations of Moran Engineering, Inc. His involvement in land surveying began in his youth, helping out on weekends and summers. He has been a part of Moran Engineering, Inc. for much of his life, including his current full time stretch since 1995. Jim is a licensed land surveyor and earned a degree in finance from Cal State University, Hayward.
Robert J. Brunel, Licensed Land Surveyor – No. 4961: Robert earned his forestry degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Robert is a survey party chief at Moran Engineering. He is responsible for boundary and topographic surveying, house location surveying, boundary staking, construction layout and story pole certification. Robert has worked at Moran Engineering since 1978.
Peggy Guare, Licensed Land Surveyor – No. 8361: Peggy earned her geology degree from Humboldt State University, Arcata. Peggy is a survey party chief at Moran Engineering. She is responsible for subdivision mapping, condominium plans and ALTA surveys, as well as field surveying and mapping. Peggy has worked at Moran Engineering since 2000.
Kyle Brook, Land Surveyor in Training: Kyle earned degrees from The University of California, Santa Barbara in Geography and Anthropology. Kyle is a survey party chief, project manager, and main job scheduler at Moran Engineering. He works on all survey-types and prefers high-accuracy property line and construction staking surveying. Kyle has worked at Moran Engineering since 2015.
Jake Sullivan, Land Surveyor in Training: Jake earned his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Portland. Jake is a survey party chief and lead drafter at Moran Engineering. He is responsible for boundary and topographic surveying, house location surveying, and boundary staking, as well as drafting Corner Records, Records of Survey and Parcel Maps. Jake has worked at Moran Engineering since 2017.
Jack Schiffler, Land Surveyor in Training: Jack earned his B.S. in Biological Sciences from The University of California, Santa Barbara in 2014. In 2019, he shifted tracks and began working at Moran Engineering. Jack is a CAD technician and survey party chief. He is responsible for boundary and topographic surveying, house location surveying, boundary staking, and construction layout.
JP Sirey, Land Surveyor in Training: JP earned his International relations degree from San Francisco State University. JP is a Project Surveyor. He is responsible for boundary and topographic surveying, house location surveying, and boundary staking, as well as drafting Corner Records, Records of Survey and Parcel Maps. JP has over 8 years of experience in Land Surveying and has worked at Moran Engineering since 2021.
In addition, Moran Engineering has three survey technicians who support the Surveyors and Surveyors in Training by participating on the survey field crews and with initial drafting and mapping and two administrative staff who support the office, employees and customers.
